Richard - Master at Arms.

Richard is our Master at Arms.

As a master at arms it is Richards responsibility to train all men, and those of fighting age, in readiness for battle. Our Lord Ferrers, Walter Deveraux, expects a high standard from his troops.

Richard is a master at a whole range of combat styles. You will find Richard shouting commands at bill blocks. These bill blocks or rather a block of men using bill hooks are weapons and farming implements and used to hack at the enemy. It takes great strength and skill to weld such a weapon. Bill hooks can be around 7 ft in length and have a variety of sharp blades and spikes on the top. We often demonstrate the infamous Bill Drill and if you are around at the time, why not join us?

Richard is responsible for training in hand to hand combat with swords, daggers, axes, hammers and a whole array of sharp pointy things for which I have forgotten the many names for.

Richard checks our armour standards and makes sure that all of those taking part in training and combat are suitably attired. if you would like to know more about armour, the different types of weapons and swords then seek out Richard at an event. He may even let you try on some armour and dress you as a knight - just be careful not to let him sign you up to his army. (Plot spoiler, it doesn't end well for our side in the Battle of Bosworth 1485).
